September 28, 2004 - APHCV Offers Free Mammogram Screening Beginning October 4, 2004 During Breast Cancer Awareness Month

LOS ANGELES – Pediatric & Women's Health Services Unit at Asian Pacific Health Care Venture, Inc. (APHCV) has joined forces with Cancer Detection Programs: Every Woman Counts and The Breast and Cervical Cancer Care Coordination and Navigation Program (CCAN) of the California Health Collaborative to urge every woman to participate in breast screening during the month of October for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

According to the United States Department of Health and Human Services, breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in the United States. In 2001, an estimated 192,200 women were diagnosed with breast cancer, and 40,600 women died from the disease. American Cancer Society projected that an estimated 215,990 new invasive cases of breast cancer are expected to occur among women in the United States during 2004.

Mammography is an important method to detect breast cancer. Therefore, we are encouraging every woman to participate in our free mammogram screening and cervical screening services. The Cancer Detection Program: Every Woman Counts is geared towards women over the age of 40. For women under 40 years old, we are able to provide services from the CCAN program. We are also able to refer women to the Breast and Cervical Cancer Treatment Program if they are detected with breast cancer.

Screenings will be held at APHCV, 1530 Hillhurst Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90027. For more information on Asian Pacific Health Care Venture’s Mammogram Screening Services call (323) 644-3880 ext. 244 or to schedule an appointment (323) 644-3888.
