Patients, staff and community representatives honor clinic at anniversary fundraiser
LOS ANGELES — Los Angeles’ Thai community honored Asian Pacific Health Care Venture, Inc. (APHCV) by organizing a dinner fundraiser in celebration of the community health center’s 20th anniversary. More than 400 guests, primarily Thai patients of APHCV and community supporters, were present at the event held on October 20, 2007 at Lincoln Plaza Hotel in Monterey Park. Thai Consul General, Mr. Jukr Boon-Long welcomed the guests and expressed his appreciation for APHCV and the bicultural health care available to Thai community members. Two patients provided testimonials to the audience about the care and assistance they received at APHCV. APHCV currently serves more than 2,600 patients of Thai descent resulting in 11,628 visits this past year. APHCV’s Thai staff, management team and providers were introduced and Kazue Shibata, CEO shared her gratitude for the support received from the Thai community. Shibata expressed, “This event was entirely initiated and planned by the patients, community folks and staff from Thai community. APHCV is a very fortunate organization to be embraced and appreciated by our patients and community like this.”
The festivities included a dinner buffet donated by local Thai restaurants and businesses. Entertainment featured native dances and music. In addition to the purchase of raffle tickets, funds were raised through guests who donated $100 or were sponsored to sing for the audience. The Thai Women’s Association donated an additional $1,000. Proceeds from the fundraiser will enable APHCV to provide care for uninsured patients and to continue its health education and outreach activities including its diabetes classes and senior activities for Thai patients.
