Did you know Lunar New Year is a 15-day long celebration? There are so many delicious foods families will cook, buy, and gift to loved ones. We’ve narrowed down a few tips for you to celebrate the holiday in a healthier way.
Include some traditional colorful vegetables into your cooking like bok choy, mushroom, and green onion.
Enjoy in moderation- Make it a balance of starch, protein, fat, and sugar. Starches are foods like rice and noodles. It is lucky to eat fish for the holiday- steamed fish is the best way to go! Many of us will be eating fried foods and dessert, just don’t overeat and enjoy in moderation.
Encourage your family to use less salt and cornstarch when cooking.
Make it easier on your loved ones to take care of their health, especially for diabetes or high blood pressure. Instead of giving New Year candies, why not give a platter of fresh tangerines, kumquats, and dates?
