Los Angeles, California (November 11, 2010) – Asian Pacific Health Care Venture, Inc. (APHCV) is proud to announce the receipt of $2,922,508.00 from the Department of Health and Human Services to support construction and renovation projects at APHCV’s Los Feliz Health Center and El Monte/Rosemead Health Center.
The Department of Health and Human Services has announced awards of $727 million to 143 community health centers across the country to address pressing construction and renovation needs and expand access to quality health care. The funds are the first in a series of awards that will be made available to community health centers under the Affordable Care Act. Funds will provide care for an additional 745,000 underserved patients. The Capital Development (CD) program grants, administered by HHS' Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), will support major construction and renovation at 143 community health centers nationwide. This builds on the more than $2 billion investment in community health centers in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. A state by state list of Recovery Act investments in community health centers is available at http://www.hhs.gov/recovery/programs/hrsa/index.html .
At APHCV’s Los Feliz Health Center improvements will be made to increase usable space for staff workstations and private patient counseling areas. This will ensure staff have adequate workspace to perform their job functions and patients can be quickly seen by a counselor in a private, comfortable setting.
To accommodate APHCV’s Los growing number of patients traveling from outside of SPA 4 seeking indigent health care services APHCV will establish the El Monte/Rosemead Health Center serving low-income and uninsured families in the Rosemead, El Monte, San Gabriel and surrounding communities, where 17 MUA (Medically Underserved Areas) are located within a 3 mile radius of the clinic location. The funds awarded will be used to prepare the commercial building purchased by APHCV to function as a health center including six medical examination rooms, a full scale dispensary, in-house laboratory and space for health education workshops and other activities.
