APHCV RECEIVES GRANT FROM S. MARK TAPER FOUNDATION
FOR "HEALTH RIDE" PROJECT

LOS ANGELES - Asian Pacific Health Care Venture, Inc. (APHCV) recently received a $45,000
grant from the S. Mark Taper Foundation in support of its "Health Ride" transportation project for
elderly, low-income immigrants and youth who normally would not have access to health care and
care and after-school services.

Funds from the S. Mark Taper Foundation will go toward the purchase of a 12-passenger van,
insurance for the first year, and gas and maintenance costs.

Based in the East Hollywood area of Los Angeles, APHCV has been providing primary health care
and education services at its health center which has a "community oriented approach" to primary
care, a focus on patients, their families, culture, and the health care needs of community.

The main purpose of APHCV's "Health Ride" project is to provide much-needed transportation
services for the following targeted groups:

  • Elderly (age 65 and above), low income, monolingual Asian immigrants.

  • Patients (including prenatal) who need rides for follow-up visit at hospitals or to attend a health education class/group session.

  • At-risk youth (ages 12-24) for after-school and weekend activities.

The S. Mark Taper Foundation is a Los Angeles-based privated foundation with a special interest in
funding a variety of issues, including aging, arts (theatre), children (abuse prevention, health, teenage
pregnancy prevention, child care), the economically disadvantaged, and health/human services
(immigrants, AIDS).

"We would like to thank the S. Mark Taper Foundation for its generous support of our project," said
Kazue Shibata, APHCV's Executive Director. "This grant gives our seniors and youth much needed
access and opens the door to better health."
