Asian Pacific Health Care Venture, Inc. Joins Growing Coalition Opposing Prop 44
Reckless measure will force clinics to close, harming millions of vulnerable populations.
LOS ANGELES, CA ⎯ Asian Pacific Health Care Venture, Inc. (APHCV) today officially announced its opposition to Prop 44, the dangerous statewide ballot measures that threatens access to care for millions for California patients. The organization said its opposition reflects its mission to provide equitable, culturally competent, and linguistically accessible healthcare to immigrants, low-income families, and underserved communities in Los Angeles.
“At APHCV, we work hard to provide the best care to our patients,” said Kazue Shibata, Chief Executive Officer. “It is beyond our moral comprehension that the union has spent $216,000,000 in union member due money, pushing dozens of ballot measures targeting community health centers and clinics, hospitals, dialysis providers, and others so that they can force providers into agreeing to their demands and do so at the expense of our patients access to affordable quality care at community health centers in our state. If Prop 44 passes, most of the clinics in our state will close or if some survive, the severe reduction in services would be certain. The SEIU-UHW ballot measures and legislation would divert billions away from patient care and would hurt patients and health care workers the union claims that they represent or wish to protect.”
Prop 44 will cut $1.7 billion in the first year alone from community health clinics and billions thereafter. As a result, clinics that are for millions of patients every year will be forced to cut patient services and shut down, jeopardizing access to care. Asian Pacific Health Care Venture, Inc. joins a broad, growing coalition of patients, healthcare providers, civil justice advocates, and community leaders opposing Prop 44.
